It’s been a while since I’ve written a post because it’s been a while since I’ve made my commute. DC and the surrounding metro area got hit with record breaking snow. I ended up working from home for almost two weeks. The city is back to normal now… sorta… so I’m back to my commute.
We survived the Metro and commuter trains being scheduled then abruptly canceled. We survived a Metro train being derailed (Side Note: Metro fares will be increasing this month… no doubt to pay for the numerous law suites after the many, many, many safety violations over the past 12 months). We even survived buses being totally cancelled because they couldn’t make it around the city. But a week after the storm there are still many streets that have not been dug out. We also have mounds of snow piled ten feet high in some places (I kid you not) that’s making it difficult for passengers and motorist to get around.
I can’t ride my bike to Union Station… well… I could… but since the bike lanes are still covered with snow I choose not to. When I don’t ride my bike to catch the MARC train into Baltimore I’m riding the Metro. I don’t like riding the Metro. Safety issues aside, the morning rush hour Metro crowds are some of the most unpleasant people on the planet! As Katt Williams would say… how ‘ya gonna be cranky before bacon? Actually he said “how ‘ya gonna be gang banging before bacon” but you get the concept… they are just evil as all get out at 8:00 in the morning… WHY?
Here we are, one week after the blizzard of 2010 here are my commuter observations:
*People who don’t shovel, making it impossible for folks to walk on the sidewals are not nice people and should be shot upon exciting their homes
*People who don’t help clear the walk of the Elders on their block don’t deserve to live in their neighborhood
*As the snow is falling, all pretty and white, people are very kind to each other
*Once the snow is over and folks dig out… ‘ya bet not take their parking space or there will be hell to pay
*Establishments that don’t shovel their sidewalk don’t deserve to have customers
*One should always practice yoga or other forms of exercise that help with ones balance because walking the streets of Baltimore and DC after a major snow is an obstacle course.
*Finally, rain or shine, snow or with a clear sky, people who ride the Metro during rush hour are possessed and in need of an exorcist or at the very least an enema!
Now the snow is melting and we turn our attention to flooded basements. Gotta love the winters in the Norteast. :-/
