Amtrack honors our vets & characters on the train

On Veterans Day, as the rain falls on an unseasonable warm morning in November, I decided to take the metro to Union Station to catch my MARC train. Wet, fallen leaves, scattered all over the ground, I thought, would not make for a safe bike ride.

The Penn Line MARC train is running on a holiday/snow schedule today for Veterans Day. This beats Columbus Day when it didn’t run at all. Speaking of which, the Camden Line isn’t running today because of the holiday. How do they decide this stuff? How does MARC decide who will get to go to work a little inconvenienced and who will be totally misplaced? We all don’t have government jobs… some of us have to work… but I digress…

When I got to Union Station I was amazed at the tribute to our Veterans.

In addition to the special station that was put up they also had vintage trains on display.

It was a nice start to the day.

BUT, just so I wouldn’t forget where I was we were treated to a little bit of drama this AM which was FUNNY!

The attractive, Black, female conductor works her way down the aisle collecting tickets (by the way, the entire crew is female today). She approaches and older, blonde hair, blue-eyed passenger. Here’s how the conversation goes:

Passenger: “Hey baby, what’s up?”

Conductor: (laughing but clearly offended) “Say what? My name is LaShawn. Nice meeting you. You greeted me like you knew me”

Passenger: “Yeah baby, I was just saying what’s up?”

Conductor: “What’s up is you’re gonna stop calling me baby

Passenger: “I know that’s right, baby”

Some colorful language went back and forth but it was a nice reminder that as we are saluting our Veterans today who put their lives on the line to protect our country we also have to be thankful to our Vets who allow characters of all kinds to roam free in America.
